As can be seen in the accompanying illustration, a mistake has crept through on yet another Canadian stamp. The belted kingfisher design of the
se-tenant issue has lost the letter "f" of
the French word "faune" on all examples released on August 15th, 1995.
Canada Post notified its Philatelic Service clients when the defective stamps were shipped, and announced that the issue would be re-issued with corrected design. The re-issue appeared Sept. 26, but first day covers and cancels were not prepared.
The quantity of the reissued set is said to be much smaller than the original issue, and will primarily go to philatelic clients who "want perfect examples".
This phenomenon is not technically an error but rather is a mistake on the part of the typographer or artist who created the original stamp designs. Only the one design was affected, but because of the se-tenant nature of the issue, the catalogues shou ld note two separate sets of four. I cannot detect any other significant difference between the two sets (printer, paper, etc.)
Both sets are were available from the Canada Post Philatelic Service. The original (flawed) issue is stock number 95118; FDC is 95120. The corrected issue is 95135, no FDC available. The Mexican set of four was also available from Canada Post Philateli c Service, order number 95804, price Cdn$9.60 for corner block set, or $28.80 for a pane of 48 stamps.
